QUARTZ Var. JACINTO DE COMPOSTELA, GYPSUM

On a gypsum, var. selenite, matrix with several reddish inclusions of clay and iron hydroxides, a classic "pinecone" of quartz crystals of the Jacinto de Compostela variety. It is said that these aggregates of red, pointed crystals were nicknamed "devil's balls" by locals for obvious reasons. These specimens are a classic of the Spanish mineralogy.
